Though Apple has dropped the "Cinema Display" manufacturer from this cool product, it would still apply. This is a monitor that is certainly geared towards the enjoyment of multimedia content like movies, photos or perhaps video games. The use of high-gloss glass rather than a matte surface is evidence of that. It leads to more glare, and also drastically increases contrast. Images have the symptoms of real "pop" , nor suffer from grainy details if viewed closely.

What's lacking is, naturally, HDMI and DVI. The insufficient USB 3.0 ports is another downer, though many competitors have yet to offer USB 3.0 also. The connections entirely on the Thunderbolt display is sensible if you are connecting it to a Mac, in case you aren't, it is going to seem rather limited.
The speakers for this display are a 2.1 system which offers reasonably adequate sound. However, as with single built-in monitor speakers ever made, the lack of proper sound staging limits enjoyment. Many external speaker options under $100 can provide better quality of sound, and you will want to purchase this kind of solution if you do not almost never hear music, watch free movies online or play games. Apple hasn't skimped on display technology, and while the glossy glass panel might be annoying in bright rooms, it gives you jaw-dropping visuals in additional ideal lighting.
It's a waste, then, how the display is average by another measure. Limited connectivity and a lack of ergnomic adjustments are major dings against any monitor priced above $400, nevermind one that's just a buck shy of $1000.
